J.O. Qualifier April 11-13, 2008
New Wave VBC jump out of the gate fast and took first place on Friday night pool. We played well as a team. We keep the ball in play when neccessary, we also pick up balls when we needed most. Our third match vs. NorCal, we started game one down 14-0 because the coach made a mistake by not staying and ref., our girls made up their minds and wanted to win this game for their coach. We came out on fire and finally caught up to Norcal at 18 even and never look back, the final score was 25-22.
Second day of J.O. was great, we were still rolling from the night before. We cruise through our first match vs. Surfside 14-1, winning both games easily. The second match vs. Premire (Colorado), we took the lead and flew by them. The third match vs. TRV (Texas) , we came out with the same intensity that we had through the day, and beat TRV 25-16. Second games, we started out a little flat and fell behind 10-2 before we made a big push and took the lead at 20-17 before a big commotion, where the game was stopped for 45 min. due to scoring problems. We finally had the score fix and the game went back and forth, we finally lost our first game of the tournament. Going into third game, we had to play mostly our starters and we won it 15-10.
Later that night we had to play a challenger match at 7pm at ASC vs. Central Cal, we came out flat, we look tired and lost to Central Cal, which put us out of the Gold bracket. Playing in the Silver bracket on Sunday morning, first match vs. Sunshine, we played well and beat Sunshine in two games. Next was Protege, again we played well, our back row pick-up a lot of balls and won the first game. We lost the second game, but came back and won the third game.
Winning all those games on Sunday put us in the Silver bracket championship match vs. So. Cal Athletic. We wanted to finish well and won the first game easily, lost the second game. The third game, we fell behind and fought hard to get back in the game but we came up a little short.
We finished 10th overall, we played well through out the weekend. We are very proud of our team and how we handle the pressures. We serves the ball very well through out the tournament. And the most important thing is our ATTITUDE was awesome!
