Oceanside was a good location for the New Wave 12’s to kick off the 2008 volleyball season. Seeded second in a four team pool, the team’s first match was against third seeded Culver City. After losing the first game, New Wave started serving and passing better and took the next two games to start out 1-0. The next match against SoCal Athletic Club was won in two by New Wave, although both games were close. The final match was against the top-rated team in the pool, T-Street out of San Clemente. T-Street won the first game convincingly. New Wave stepped up the competition in the second game, beating T-Street with strong back-row play and serving. New Wave kept getting stronger and took the final game as the parents, players, and coaches cheered. The New Wave 12’s are out of the starting blocks with a first place in their pool and looking forward to the next qualifier on January 27th.
